
South Asian Cultural Association x Nachle
About
The South Asian Cultural Association is a student run cultural club at SUNY New Paltz. The club is dedicated to celebrating and spreading awareness of South Asian culture. We try to learn something new about a South Asian country each meeting. The club celebrates various South Asian holidays and ceremonies. The group also takes time during each meeting to discuss issues or topics that pertain to the general South Asian community. The club also hosts multiple events open to the public where it aims to spread culture and awareness. The club is open to all who wish to learn and spread South Asian culture. Nachle is the competitive dance team associated with this organization. The team has weekly practices consisting of learning different styles of dance, such as bollywood-fusion, bhangra, hip hop, Indian classical, and contemporary. Membership of the dance team requires tryouts. These dances are then performed at on-campus and off-campus events, as well as, off-campus dance competitions.
SACA meetings will be held at SUB 402 biweekly on Thursdays from 7pm-8pm (reminders about meetings will be sent through email and on instagram @npsaca 24 hours in advance).
Nachle practices will be held Tuesdays 6-7:30pm in SUB Dance Studio and Thursdays 8-9:30pm in the SUB dance studio.
