Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers
About
The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community.
At New Paltz, we serve first as a community for under-represented students taking rigorous STEM courses, while also providing our members a place to develop the soft and hard skills essential to be a top competing applicant. This includes professional development, networking opportunities, leadership training, and access to the larger organization: SHPE National's resources. SHPE National offers the ability to take advantage of opportunities to travel to conferences, meet future employers, exclusive job/internship & scholarship opportunities and availability to the nation’s largest association dedicated to fostering Hispanic leadership in the STEM field.
